Huntington’s Disease National Conference
Date: 9-10 September 2010
 
The Conference will provide an opportunity to meet and share knowledge and experiences with family members, researchers, allied health professionals, care workers and members and supporters of all Huntington’s Disease Associations across Australia.
 
The program will focus on world wide research into Huntington’s Disease; best practice in care; and support needs of families and community services caring for those affected by Huntington’s Disease.
 
Registration forms and the program will be posted on the HD National website www.huntingtonsaustralia.asn.au and will also be available for mail out.

Mental Health Week
Dates for 2010
Mental Health Week is always the week that World Mental Health Day (10 October) falls within. National Stress Less Day always falls on the Wednesday of the designated week.
 
Mental Health Week : 10th - 16th October 2010
World Mental Health Day : Sunday 10th October 2010
Stress Less Day : Wednesday 13th October 2010
 
Mental Health Week is an annual national health promotion event. The aim is to raise awareness of the importance of mental health and well-being in the wider community, to increase community awareness and education about mental health issues and to encourage participation in life enhancing lifestyles.
 
Key activities associated with health promotion activity include:
* Training health mental health professionals in the concepts and practice of health promotion

* Working in partnership with other organisations and the broader community to develop and implement strategies which in improve health and well-being of communities

* Identifying and implementing effective evidence-based health promotion programmes and strategies

* Raising awareness of the whole community about the causes and effects of health and illness.

5th Australian Batten Disease Family Conference
The Australian Chapter of the Batten Disease Support and Research Assoc.

CONSUMERS REFORMING HEALTH 2011 CONFERENCE
Health Issues Centre will host the inaugural international conference for community engagement in health care.
  • The conference will run from 18th - 20th July 2011 with a Public Forum on Sunday 17th of July 2011 at the Melbourne Convention and Exhibition Centre.
Consumers Reforming Health 2011 is a forum developed specifically for those with interest in involving consumers in health policy and process. The conference upholds the essential principle that consumer participation is fundamental for health development, clinical governance, community capacity building and health outcomes.
 
The program aims to demonstrate and enhance this proposition by exploring the experiences, frameworks and practical strategies of participation in a number of health sectors among a diverse range of relevant stakeholders. It intends to broker some new learning on core principles for future change.
